WESTPORT WEATHER

The natural progression from the seasonal Razor Clams is the year round Dungeness Crab season.  Thats right pick a day and head to Westport WA. Here is an easy map from my favorite pit stop on the way to the ocean: https://goo.gl/maps/SQTLsSewk6v5Kuhe8 ,

On the first trip to Pier 20 at Westport, what I like to call the proving mission, we caught 4 dungeness crab that were keepers.  The criteria being male and bigger than six inches.  Another nice rule about Pier 20 is no catch record required and if you have a feshwater fishing license fishing for Sea Bass or Salmon is legal.  Check WDFW for limits and punch card requirements for the fish.  But this is about crab.  Painfully easy.  We used ring traps with a sack of chicken legs tied to the middle.  Toss in the rings, which came with 100' rope - overkill for Westport, soak for 15 minutes and pull the rings up.  Always had crab just had to size and sex them.  Girls go back, boys bigger than 6 inches are keepers - don't quote me on size always VERIFY with WDFW.  The area pier 20 is considered Marine Area 2-2. Here is the setup we use for a castable crab trap.
